From the Foster:

Hello everyone,

My name on the website is Bay, but my foster family calls me Allie.  I came to Secondhand Hounds in June with both of my parents, and my brothers and sisters. We were all very under-socialized, and learning from my parents, I had a fear of humans, and new dogs.

My foster mom and SHH worked with me diligently, showing me that it was okay to trust and have fun.  I now can go to dog parks and I do pretty good with almost every dog (sometimes other dogs don't want to be bother and I am still figuring that out), I enjoy playing and chasing around with them.  The resident dog will play with me at the park as she won't at home.

On walks, my foster family will keep me close to them when other dogs are approaching and my foster mom knows which ones are friendly enough for me to approach them and which aren't.

I have a lot of puppy in me, so I can be very excited at times and tear around the house (I don't have a fenced in yard so I have to take it out in the house).  I must be pretty funny when I am excited, as my foster family laughs at me.  I love to kiss you once I get to know you.  I go overboard at times, so they are teaching me how to give many kisses but not overdo it.  When excited I like to jump, but now learned to sit on command and they are teaching me not to jump on you so much.

My main challenge now, is I am very protective of my home, and my people. When new people come into the house, I bark at them, and can lunge and nip at them. This is something I develop as I get comfortable in my home, so my forever family will have to be very on top of this and ready to work with me on it as my foster home has. I love kids, but because of this issue, I won't be adopted to a home with kids under 12, as it is just best that there aren't frequent visitors of this age coming in and out.  I have had help from a Canine trainer that has given my foster mom some more ideas to get me back to being comfortable around new people - the notes from my sessions will come with me so you can keep working on it!

I am crated in the house when my family isn't home. I have proven to  be good up to 9 hours. I get a treat going into the crate and a lot of praise and loving when they come home and they see me still in the crate waiting for them.   I sometimes don't get crated with they are gone for a short period, but no more than an hour or so as I am curious and if I can find trouble, I will.

At night I sleep in my foster mom's bed. I stay in bed all night unless I hear something I need to tell you about.  I love to cuddle when in bed and also on the couch next to you when I want to take naps.  I have a lot of energy especially in the evenings. I would do best in a home that had another dog that is willing to play and wrestle with me.  I will play fetch and tug a war at home (at dog parks, I have no interest playing fetch).  I like to chew on my toys too.  I also will tear around in the house to burn off the energy that I have bottle up.

Let's g
et to know each other.  I like to have lots of fun and lots of cuddles and kisses....treats are a bonus for me.
